Heavy Vehicle Certifications
1.0 Pursuant to the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995
1.1 The National code of Practice for Heavy Vehicle Modifications establishes common technical standards for use throughout Australia. Administration responsibilities for type certification and registration remains with the Federal and State/Territory for use throughout Australia.
1.2 The Heavy Vehicle Certification codes include design, manufacture, sale, maintenance, modification or repair of motor vehicles and trailers. (Heavy Vehicles greater than 4.5 tonne) (Trailers greater than 750 kilograms.)
1.3 Heavy Vehicle Certification inspectors have an Approved Person to certify :
1.3.1 Heavy Vehicles greater than 4.5t
1.3.2 Trailers greater than 750 kilograms.

Authorised Officer Approval for Vehicle Modification - Certification Procedure
Upon request to approve a modification the following procedure is followed:
1. Modified Vehicles The vehicle is to be inspected to ensure that the modifications have been completed in accordance with the original vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations or the Code of Practice. The authorised officer must also be satisfied that the vehicle when modified still complies with all Australian Design Rules to which it was originally manufactured.
2. Vehicle Certification Where any certification procedures are to be performed the authorised officer, REPQ engineer must satisfy himself that the vehicle meets all of the regulatory modification code checklist requirements.
3. Vehicles should be presented for inspection in a roadworthy condition. There is NO obligation to approve a modification to any vehicle if it is not in a roadworthy condition.
4. A Modification Plate is affixed in a conspicuous position preferably adjacent to vehicle’s compliance plate or prior to 1 January adjacent to the manufacturer’s plate, stamped or engraved with all relevant details. Modifications plates are to be left affixed to the vehicle.
5. All fees are to be paid prior to Inspection and is a requirement of the inspection. Without clear funds paid in full to our account the certification is not valid.
